Rublev Colours Vermilion Watercolor is an opaque, deep red from vermilion (mercuric sulfide) made by the dry process in China. Vermilion is found on the works of most major watercolorists of the 18th and 19th centuries. It was used by manuscript illuminators since earliest times.
